This 1961 Chrysler 300G hardtop coupe is one of 1,280 examples produced for the model year, and it was refurbished following the seller’s 2019 acquisition. The car was refinished in Alaskan White, the 413ci V8 was refreshed, and the four bucket seats were fitted with replacement tan leather upholstery. Additional work involved re-chroming the bumpers, rebuilding the dual four-barrel carburetors, installing a Waldron’s Exhaust system, and replacing or rebuilding components for the braking, power steering, and suspension systems. Shifting is through a push-button three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The car is also equipped with 15″ steel wheels, power-adjustable front bucket seats, lap belts, power windows, an Electro Touch-Tuner AM radio, and a full-length center console.
The 300 Letter Series received annual styling updates beginning in 1956, and the sixth iteration was designated the 300G. The car was produced in convertible form as well as a pillarless coupe variant such as this example. The seller tells us the car was refinished in the factory color Alaskan White and the bumpers were re-chromed as part of the refurbishment work under current ownership.
Steel 15″ wheels were refurbished and wear 300-branded chrome covers with red centers, and were mounted with Coker Classic whitewall tires in 2021. The master cylinder was replaced, the front suspension was overhauled, and the power steering box was rebuilt following the seller’s acquisition. The front drum brakes are said to grab.
The cabin features four bucket seats that were re-padded and trimmed in tan leather in 2021, and the front pair is power-adjustable and swiveling. Color-coordinated door panels are adorned with bright trim, and a full-length console spans the cabin. Appointments include lap belts, power windows, and an Electro Touch-Tuner AM radio. The air conditioning system was overhauled in August 2021 but no longer blows cold.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames an AstraDome instrument cluster with a 150-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 78k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. The tachometer drive cable was replaced in 2022.
The 413ci “Golden Lion” V8 was factory equipped with dual four-barrel carburetors and rated at 375 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque when new. Work following the seller’s acquisition is detailed on service invoices provided in the gallery and involved the installation of an electric fuel pump as well as refreshing the engine, re-coring the radiator, flushing the fuel tank, and rebuilding the starter and carburetors. The hood pad was also replaced.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. A Waldron’s Exhaust system was also fitted.
